Doek and Slay: Zimbabwe’s Empowering Movement Redefining Womanhood, Culture, and Celebration

Doek and Slay: Celebrating Sisterhood, Strength, and Style in Zimbabwe’s Premier Women’s Movement

Doek and Slay is more than just an event; it's a revolution in Zimbabwe's entertainment and lifestyle scene — a bold celebration of womanhood, culture, and confidence.

Doek and Slay

As a premier, women-only movement, it has redefined what empowerment looks like by creating a safe, inclusive, and vibrant space where women from all walks of life can come together to laugh, dance, network, and celebrate each other without judgment. This is not just an event — it’s a movement, a lifestyle, and the story of who we are.

Our Story: Why We Started Doek and Slay

The idea for Doek and Slay was born out of a realization that mixed-gender public entertainment events in Zimbabwe remained male-dominated, often leaving women hesitant to attend due to safety concerns and fear of harassment. Created by Event Hulks in 2023, our vision was to create a safe sanctuary where women could enjoy entertainment and express themselves freely.

Doek and Slay is built on three pillars: Empowerment (providing a safe space for self-expression), Culture (promoting African heritage through fashion, music, and dance), and Networking (creating a platform for socio-business connections). We seek to foster a supportive digital community and encourage shared responsibility in promoting women’s wellness and mental health.

The Doek and Slay Experience

A Doek and Slay event is a vibrant celebration of sisterhood. Key elements include:

  • Headscarves (Doeks) & African Fashion: The dress code emphasizes traditional doeks and other African attire, celebrating culture and personal style.
  • Live Entertainment: We feature popular musicians and DJs, with past lineups including prominent artists like Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Feli Nandi, and Tamy Moyo.
  • A Safe and Inclusive Vibe: Our events are a place where "ladies can arrive as strangers and leave as sisters," prioritizing genuine connection in a positive, judgment-free atmosphere.
  • Business & Networking: We provide a venue for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products and services to our large female audience.

From Harare to the World

Since launching in Harare in 2023, Doek and Slay has expanded its reach both domestically and internationally, with events gaining popularity in:

  1. Zimbabwe: Harare, Masvingo, and Bulawayo.
  2. Zambia: Lusaka.
  3. United Kingdom: Our first UK event took place in September 2025.
  4. South Africa: Events have been organized in Cape Town.

This growth, which includes a NAMA award recognition, shows our commitment to creating an "new and improved" Doek and Slay experience as we continue to expand.
