Writing in an emotional tribute posted alongside a photograph of Dr. Muduva in academic regalia, 36-year-old businesswoman Hazel Silibaziso Mafu revealed that she missed crucial phone calls from the slain commissioner on Tuesday night—the very night he was brutally attacked.
Mafu, who described Muduva as her "best friend, my mentor, my fellow board member, and my brother," indicated that she was intimately aware of the severe friction within his marriage prior to the fatal attack.
Hours after those missed calls, Chirara struck Muduva three times with an axe while he slept following the online circulation of his 'Roora Day' photographs with Patience Mangwiro. Both Muduva and Chirara subsequently died from their injuries at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on Wednesday morning.

According to Mafu, Dr. Muduva had frequently confided in her about his intense domestic struggles on a daily basis. In public posts detailing their close relationship, Mafu unleashed startling claims regarding marital conflict in the Muduva household.
Recalling a specific instance, Mafu revealed that Muduva once arrived exhausted after escaping a fight at home with his wife's mobile phone—after allegedly uncovering her affairs with multiple men, including one with whom she was reportedly running a butchery business.
Hazel Mafu’s High-Profile Legal Battle
Mafu’s public tribute comes while she navigates her own high-profile legal battles. The founder and director of Hezy Motors Logistics is currently out on US$500 bail granted by the High Court on August 20.
The 36-year-old businesswoman faces fraud charges connected to an alleged vehicle importation scam involving 79 complainants. Prosecutors allege that Mafu duped clients out of US$624,958.96 and ZiG1,275,878.35 by falsely representing that her company could import and deliver vehicles at competitive prices.
Before her eventual arrest, the State alleged that she had been on the run for five months and had slipped out of the country in March to evade police prosecution.

The tragic domestic dispute originally erupted after Dr. Muduva formalized a customary marriage with Patience Mangwiro, a colleague at Midlands State University (MSU). Circulation of their 'Roora Day' photographs on WhatsApp reportedly triggered Chirara's deadly assault with a newly acquired axe.
