‘Fortuner is the New Aqua’: Wicknell Chivayo Drops US$630,000 on Church Leaders

Harare, Zimbabwe — Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo has declared that the Toyota Aqua is now "too common," announcing a massive upgrade for his church leaders. In a single Friday spree, he spent a total of US$630,000 on high-end SUVs, a Ford Ranger, and cash handouts.

THE PLEDGE: Chivayo says he has committed US$10 million to the church this year and is willing to double it.

"I'm Tired of Buying Aquas"

Chivayo described the spending spree as an expression of love for the Johanne Masowe Chishanu sect. He stated that he has "upgraded" because smaller vehicles no longer reflect the stature of the church leaders.

“Ndakasvika paku neta neku tenga ma AQUA, angovawo nemunhu wese so in 2026, I have UPGRADED and a TOYOTA FORTUNER is now the new AQUA,” he wrote on Facebook.

Who Got What?

Six leaders from Harare each received a brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner 2.4D (valued at US$70,000) plus US$10,000 cash for fuel. The recipients are:

  1. Madzibaba Auto (Budiriro 2)
  2. Madzibaba Tinashe (White Cliff)
  3. Madzibaba Bhuru (Hatcliff)
  4. Madzibaba Rabbi Musande (Ruwa)
  5. Madzibaba Patrick (Grenarah)
  6. Madzibaba Benjamin (Sunningdale)

Madzibaba Johanne Tasiriro (Marondera), described as exceptionally devoted, received a massive upgrade. Having previously received a house and a Fortuner, he was gifted a 2026 Ford Ranger Wildtrak (US$80,000) and US$10,000 cash.

Chivayo suggested the previously gifted Fortuner could be passed on to Tasiriro’s wife.

Two other leaders, Madzibaba Moses (Gwanzura) and Madzibaba Owen (Velvet), were allocated US$20,000 each for fuel, while their wives will receive US$10,000 each in cash.

The $10 Million Commitment

Beyond personal vehicles, Chivayo revealed he has ordered 40 additional brand-new buses for church use. He promised that more leaders would receive vehicles throughout the year.

Chivayo stated that Friday's spending was just "a cool US$630,000 spent with LOVE."

He added: "If the 10 million USD I committed to the church this year runs out I will simply DOUBLE IT to 20 million USD with my EYES CLOSED."

Chivayo's Philosophy

Defending his lavish spending on religious leaders, Chivayo declared:

“CHINAMATO CHEMASOWE hachina HUROMBO kwete kwete ini ndaka zviramba !!!” (Masowe worship has no poverty, no no, I refused that!)

He vowed to ensure every committed leader receives a brand-new car this year, "come rain or sunshine."
