His most iconic holding was Shabanie Mashaba Mines (SMM). Under his stewardship, it stood as the country’s sole asbestos producer, a major employer, and a critical export engine that supported thousands of families and communities.

Mawere's vision extended far beyond mining. He demonstrated the capacity of local entrepreneurs to manage complex, multi-sector portfolios, with interests including:

  • Finance: First Bank Corporation
  • Insurance: ZimRe Holdings
  • Manufacturing: Schweppes Zimbabwe
