Persistent bad weather in Harare has forced a major change for the "One Big Party" concert. Originally set for the Hockey Stadium, the massive New Year's Eve shutdown featuring Winky D and Jah Prayzah has been moved to the more spacious and weather-resistant Glamis Arena.
The giants of Zimbabwean music will now face off at Glamis Arena.
The Move to Glamis
Safety and comfort for fans prompted the sudden venue change.
With Harare experiencing persistent rains, the Hockey Stadium's open turf posed a risk of becoming waterlogged and muddy. The move to Glamis Arena allows for better ground conditions and the erection of massive tents to keep revelers dry.
Ticket sales have skyrocketed as fans clamor to see the "Big Two" on one stage. The organizers realized the Hockey Stadium might be too small to safely accommodate the expected thousands. Glamis Arena offers the sprawling space needed for a "Shutdown" of this magnitude.
Chipaz Speaks
Partson "Chipaz" Chimbodza, the veteran promoter behind the event, confirmed the development to the Daily News:
We decided to change the venue promptly due to the high demand for the event. The Glamis Arena provides enough space for us to erect tents in case of rain. We are taking these measures to ensure the safety and comfort of our fans.
He added that having Winky D and Jah Prayzah on one stage is "what many people have been itching for."
