For Mabvuku, This Is Her Finest Hour: Scottland FC Crowned Kings

Sona Headlines | Sports Reporters | Championship Celebration

The streets of Mabvuku turned into a sea of joy yesterday as the strong bond between the residents and Scottland FC was put on full public display. For the first time in history, a club from this eastern suburb has been crowned Castle Lager PSL Champions, completing a stunning transformation from a Division One franchise to the kings of Zimbabwean football in just two years.

Scenes of True Love

Hundreds of residents filled the streets as players and club officials displayed the championship trophy from an open-top bus that arrived in Harare just this week. The Scottland party rolled through the Harare CBD and Mbare, but the climax was undoubtedly in Mabvuku. It was a display of true love between a community and its new heroes.

While the whole team was celebrated, the biggest roar was reserved for two men: Scottland’s top scorer Tymon Machope and the legendary Khama Billiat. When they raised the trophy, the suburb erupted.

Breaking 41-Year Records

Scottland FC has rewritten the history books. They are the first club to win the PSL in their debut year in the top-flight league in 41 years. The last team to achieve this feat was Black Rhinos in 1984. Furthermore, they are the first club to achieve this since the PSL replaced the Super League.

Until their emergence in Division One last season, Scottland (formed in 2023) was virtually unknown. Thanks to huge investment in top players and consecutive promotions, they powered to the championship with a comfortable seven-point cushion, cementing themselves as the new "Kings of the Kraal."

The Mabvuku Connection

Mabvuku has always been a nursery for football talent. The suburb produced icons like the late Joe Mugabe, Brenna Msiska, Usman Misi, the late Oswin Kwaramba, and the Mugeyi twins (Wilfred and William). While the twins helped Black Aces win the league in 1992, celebrating a club from Mabvuku winning the title is a completely new and historic feeling.

Currently, Scottland plays their home matches at Rufaro Stadium, meaning many residents watched their team’s glory run from a distance. However, the owners have pledged to build a stadium within Mabvuku, ensuring the champions will finally play in their own backyard.

Changes at the Top

Coach Tonderai Ndiraya, who made history by becoming the first coach to guide two different clubs to their maiden titles in successive seasons, was missing from the parade. He left the club immediately after securing the championship. He has been replaced by the veteran Norman Mapeza.

Club Vice-Chairman Musa Gwasira addressed the fans, acknowledging the absence of the former coach and players currently on national duty. He thanked the squad for steering Scottland to the 2025 crown and promised that the victory parade would visit other parts of the country soon.
