"That's Not Yours": A Story of Rejection & Grace

Rudo's journey is underpinned by powerful personal testimonies. One defining moment from her childhood in Gweru highlights her resilience and the grace instilled by her mother.

Rudo recalls living in a modest two-roomed house in Gweru. It was "Back to School" season, and her father had just returned from Harare. Anticipation was high.

She walked into the bedroom to find a beautiful spread on the bed: a new satchel, a crisp uniform, shiny shoes, and new clothes. Overjoyed, she jumped up and down, thanking her father for the gifts.

Her father’s response was blunt and devastating: "That's not yours. That is for Rumbi."

Rumbi was her half-sister. As Rudo watched, her father packed the items away for his other child. Crushed, Rudo walked outside and sat on a stone in silence, feeling the deep sting of rejection.

Her mother, witnessing the pain, retreated to cry in private but later sat Rudo down with a life-changing instruction:

"Rumbi is still your little sister. I need you to love her. She doesn't know that she got things that you didn't get."

This act of grace prevented bitterness from taking root. Today, Rudo has a restored relationship with her sibling, proving that love can overcome the scars of favoritism.
