The state alleges that the group descended on the businessman’s home with the clear intention of stealing valuables, an attack that tragically ended in bloodshed.

The Fateful Night of Joseph Mutangadura’s Murder

Joseph Mutangadura was killed at his residence in Lisheen Estate, Ruwa. Armed assailants reportedly subdued a security guard before forcing their way into the main house.

The intruders breached the bedroom where Mutangadura was with his wife and opened fire. The 67-year-old businessman was shot in the chest.

Mutangadura was rushed to Eden Hospital in Windsor, Ruwa, but was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife survived the terrifying ordeal but sustained injuries during the attack.

Prosecutors confirmed that Ephraim Alfas was part of the criminal gang that targeted Joseph Mutangadura on 17 August 2025. He appeared before the court facing serious charges, including murder and armed robbery.

The state alleges that the group stormed the businessman’s home with the intention of stealing valuables, an attack that tragically ended in Mutangadura’s death.

As of December 2025, at least eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of Joseph "Mutangazi" Mutangadura. All suspects are facing charges of murder and armed robbery and have been remanded in custody as the case continues through the Harare regional courts.

  • Crime Scene Details: The attackers targeted Mutangadura’s home at Lisheen Estate. They reportedly only took a cellphone valued at US$10 but forced open his safe and fired multiple shots at him.
  • Recognition of Detectives: In mid-December 2025, CID Homicide detectives were formally honored for their relentless investigation and success in solving the high-profile case.
  • Joseph Mutangadura: Pronounced dead on arrival at Eden Hospital on 17 August 2025, following the attack.
  • Patience Mutangadura: His wife, left unconscious during the raid, has been undergoing physical and emotional recovery throughout the latter half of 2025.
