In a grand gesture of recognition for his monumental contributions to Zimbabwe’s film and arts industry, businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo has gifted veteran actor, scriptwriter, and cultural architect Aaron Chiundura Moyo a brand new 2025 Toyota Fortuner GD6 4x4, plus US$50,000 in cash. Chivayo hailed Moyo as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) of Zimbabwean television.
A Token of Appreciation for a Cultural Architect
Sir Wicknell Chivayo announced his "humble token of appreciation" for Aaron Chiundura Moyo via social media. The gift includes:
- A **Brand New 2025 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 GD6**, fully paid for.
- **US$50,000 cash**, intended for fuel and an "early Christmas."
Moyo was instructed to collect the vehicle from Victor at Exquisite Car Dealership (29 Mazowe Street Cnr, Josiah Tongogara St, Harare) on Monday.
Chivayo celebrated Moyo as a man who "SHAPED the narrative of Zimbabwean theatre and television." He emphasized that the history of Zimbabwe’s film and arts industry is incomplete without mentioning Moyo’s seminal works like **STUDIO 263** and **TIRI PARWENDO**.
Chivayo concluded by encouraging Moyo to "continue to mentor the next generation of FILM producers, ACTORS, artists, broadcasters and young creative minds."
Aaron Chiundura Moyo: The G.O.A.T. of Zimbabwean Drama
Chiundura Moyo is the veteran actor and script-writer behind some of the most popular and critically acclaimed local drama series aired on ZTV, including:
- **Studio 263:** The country's first popular soap opera, which he initially named *MuHarare Hamurarwe*.
- **Tiri Parwendo:** A traditional drama series.
- **Chiwoko Muhomwe** and **Zviri Mudendere**.
Moyo has written **more than 20 novels**, many of which have become set books in the Zimbabwean educational curriculum, such as *Wakandicheka Nerakagomara* and *Nguwo Dzouswa*. He writes exclusively in Shona, believing his message is most relevant to those who understand his vernacular language.
Biography and Career Milestones
Born Chiundura Moyo in Gweru in 1950, he later adopted the name Aaron. He faced educational hurdles, starting school at age 15 and being rejected by several secondary schools due to his age, leading him to alter his birth date to 1954. He eventually earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Communications from the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU). Moyo is a bachelor who considers himself "married to his work," though he has sired two children out of wedlock.
Moyo was inspired to write by his father's folklores and the Literature Bureau. His first short story, *Mahwekwe NaSarudzai Patsime*, was read on the Rhodesia Broadcasting Corporation (RBC) in 1970. Despite his manuscript for *Sarai Mugarike* being rejected multiple times, his perseverance led to its publication as *Uchandifungawo* in 1975, launching his prolific career.
