In a historic moment for Zimbabwean football, newcomers Scottland FC have been crowned the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions. The Mabvuku-based side completed a remarkable fairytale season by becoming only the second team in history to win the league title in their debut season, matching the legendary 1984 record set by Black Rhinos.

Needing a win to secure the title with two games to spare, the team delivered a championship-worthy performance, with goals from stars Khama Billiat, Tymon Machope, Ronald Pfumbidzai, and Tadiwa Chakuchichi.
The Harare-based side, owned by ambitious businessman Scott Sakupwanya, dominated the league for much of the season, accumulating an unassailable 65 points from 32 matches. They lost only five games in their 32 matches so far, the same number of defeats the champion Black Rhinos side suffered in their entire 26-game season in '84. If Scottland avoids defeat in their final two matches, they will have matched this record over a much longer and more demanding 34-game season.
One record, however, remains out of reach. The 1984 Black Rhinos team achieved a historic League and Cup double, a feat Scottland FC cannot match this season. Nonetheless, their league triumph is a testament to their incredible consistency and quality.
The rarity of this accomplishment is highlighted by the near miss of FC Platinum in 2011. As debutants, they came agonizingly close to the title, only to lose it to Dynamos on goal difference on the final day, proving just how difficult this feat is to achieve in modern football.

The victory also marks a moment of personal history for two key figures in the team. Coach Tonderai Ndiraya has made history by winning back-to-back league titles with two different clubs, having lifted the trophy with Simba Bhora in 2024 before guiding Scottland FC to glory this year.
Similarly, team captain Walter Musona has also achieved consecutive league triumphs, having led Simba Bhora to their 2024 victory before captaining Scottland FC in their historic debut season. Their leadership and experience were instrumental in the team's success.
