The Man Behind the Chant

Jah Master, born Rodney Mashandure, is a Zimdancehall artist celebrated for his eccentric fashion sense, unique chanting style, and raw lyrics. While he exploded onto the mainstream stage recently, his journey began much earlier.

He started his musical career around 2010, spending years in the underground circuit. By 2016, he had garnered a loyal following among hardcore Zimdancehall fans, but mainstream success remained elusive. It wasn't until early 2019 with the track "Takasangana Mutaundi" that the wider public began to take notice.

"In an interview in March 2019, Jah Master revealed he had penned over 700 songs but had never considered compiling an album, focusing instead on singles and live performances."

The "Hello Mwari" Phenomenon

In August 2020, Jah Master's career trajectory changed forever. He featured on NashTV's Nash Nation Riddim 3 competition, vying for a prize of US $3,000. His entry, "Hello Mwari," didn't just win hearts; it broke records.

The video gained over 1 million views on YouTube within 2 weeks, a staggering achievement for a local artist. It spawned the "Hello Mwari Challenge" on social media, where fans—and even heavyweights like Jah Prayzah—posted videos lip-syncing the infectious track.

Capitalizing on the momentum, Jah Master collaborated with Tanzanian songbird Haitham Kim in September 2020 for the "Hello Mwari" remix. Supported by the Passion Java Records label, the remix attracted significant interest across the region, racking up hundreds of thousands of views and solidifying his cross-border appeal.

Corporate Endorsements & Deals

Jah Master's influence transcended music into the corporate world. In May, he was unveiled as the brand ambassador for BancABC Zimbabwe’s local remittance service, City Hopper.

As part of this lucrative assignation to push the product to the mass market, Jah Master received a brand-new, City Hopper-branded Toyota Allion.
