The Charambas Celebrate Three Decades of Gospel Music with a Fan-Powered Concert

The Charambas Mark 30 Years in Gospel Music with a Fan-Powered Celebration

Pastor Charles and Mai Olivia Charamba, affectionately known as Zimbabwe’s first family of gospel music, recently celebrated three decades of inspiring worship through song. The power couple hosted a spectacular concert that honored their 30-year musical journey, performing thirty timeless hits selected by their loyal fans.

The Charambas Celebrate Three Decades of Gospel Music

The anniversary show was more than just a concert—it was a tribute to the Charambas’ enduring impact on Zimbabwean gospel music. From classic favorites to heartfelt new renditions, the fan-curated setlist showcased the duo’s unmatched artistry, spiritual message, and commitment to spreading faith through music. Their 30-year milestone reaffirmed their legacy as pioneers and icons in the gospel scene.

A Fan-Curated Celebration

The unique concept for the celebration was a heartfelt tribute to the fans who have supported them since their beginning. Event organizer and daughter, Shalom Charamba, explained the process:

“The 30 songs that were performed were picked by the fans through social media platforms. These were thirty songs from the Charambas’ catalogue, spanning from 1995 to 2025.”

The Harare venue was filled to capacity, with an atmosphere that affirmed the couple’s unshakeable position at the pinnacle of the gospel scene. "The turnout was amazing and the atmosphere was charged," Shalom added. "We are so grateful to God for making it successful.”

A Family & Gospel Affair

The evening was a true family affair, commencing with a soul-stirring performance from the couple’s daughter, Eternity Charamba, demonstrating the powerful legacy of faith being passed to a new generation.

The event transformed into a who’s who of Zimbabwean gospel, with stellar appearances from beloved artists including Janet Manyowa, Minister Benny Hadassah Muzanamombe, and Pastor Tinashe Murigo. The group Voices of Triumph further electrified the atmosphere with powerful harmonies, paying homage to the Charambas' trailblazing influence.

An Enduring Legacy

As the couple took to the stage, the air was thick with emotion. The opening chords of beloved anthems like ‘Machira Chete’ and ‘Nyika Zimbabwe’ sent waves of fervent sing-alongs through the crowd, with many moved to dance and others to quiet, joyful tears. The performance was a powerful journey through their timeless, spirit-led music.

The celebration also served to introduce their latest project: a trilogy of albums released this year to mark the occasion. Shalom Charamba confirmed, "This year, they released three albums with thirty songs in total, to celebrate their thirty years in music."
