Mount Darwin Tragedy: Soldier Kills Three Before Turning Gun on Himself!

A chilling incident unfolded in Mount Darwin on August 9, 2024, as a Zimbabwean soldier, Corporal Henry Ncube, embarked on a deadly rampage, claiming the lives of three individuals before turning the gun on himself.


The horror began at around 8 pm when Ncube and fellow soldiers entered Chikuni Bottle Store in Rushinga, their presence immediately unsettling patrons. The situation escalated dramatically just after midnight.

A Deadly Confrontation

A fatal altercation erupted at approximately 12:30 am on August 10. Justice Makiwa, a 33-year-old local resident, became the first victim when Ncube fatally shot him during an argument outside Goto Bottle Store.

Tragedy struck again as Victor Mufaro Dzaoma, a 38-year-old CIO operative, attempted to intervene. He was shot in the abdomen and succumbed to his injuries. In the ensuing chaos, Inspector Munemo, who was on patrol with the group, sustained a gunshot wound to the hand but survived.

A Final Act of Desperation

Ncube's rampage continued at the army barracks where he resided. There, he fatally shot his 18-year-old girlfriend, Evernice Magwenzi, before turning the gun on himself.

Aftermath and Investigation

Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the bodies of the victims in a horrific state. Justice Makiwa was found beside his vehicle, while Victor Mufaro Dzaoma was discovered a short distance away. At the army barracks, the bodies of Evernice Magwenzi and Corporal Ncube were found in a single room.

The motive behind Ncube's actions remains shrouded in mystery. Authorities have recovered AK-47 cartridges from both crime scenes and launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic events.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents grappling with fear and disbelief. 

As the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives, questions linger about the factors that contributed to this horrific act of violence.
