An inspiring inside look at how Zimbabwean mixed martial arts trailblazer Themba Gorimbo transitioned from international UFC glory and receiving a home from The Rock to embracing America's ultimate hustle—delivering for Uber Eats and converting doorstep encounters into personal training clients.
For anyone who has followed the meteoric rise of Zimbabwean-born mixed martial artist Themba Gorimbo, complacency has never been part of his vocabulary. From surviving the perilous Marange diamond fields and crossing borders into South Africa without legal documentation, to making history in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and receiving a house from Hollywood superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Gorimbo's life has been nothing short of cinematic. Now, in his latest American chapter, he is opening up about his new routine: driving for Uber Eats and cleverly turning food drop-offs into high-value personal training client leads.
Detailing the American Delivery Hustle
Life after professional combat sports often forces athletes to confront an unpredictable financial reality. While many high-profile fighters struggle with transition, Gorimbo has embraced ordinary labor in America with unmatched humility and entrepreneurial vision.
How Gorimbo Maximizes Every Uber Eats Trip
Rather than treating Uber Eats as a simple paycheck, Gorimbo uses customer interactions to introduce his professional fitness background and pitch personal training.
His hustle has already yielded tangible results, with at least one recent delivery customer signing up on the spot for private in-home personal training sessions.
Forged in Extreme Hardship
Gorimbo's tireless work ethic was born out of profound early adversity. Orphaned by age 13 after losing both parents, severe drought in Zimbabwe pushed him into the dangerous Marange diamond fields, where he survived German shepherd attacks and military raids.
UFC Stardom, $7.49 and Dwayne Johnson
In 2023, Gorimbo made history as the first Zimbabwean to win a UFC bout in the United States. His viral post revealing he had only $7.49 in his bank account—before auctioning his fight kit to fund a clean-water borehole in his village—captured global headlines.
Gorimbo on His Unstoppable Mindset:“My life is a movie. I believe it is pre-written by God; I just happen to be the main actor in it. You can be down and out, but if you stay positive, you can become anything.”
