A Power Revolution! US$100 Million Zvishavane Solar Megaproject Nears Completion, Set to Pump 200M kWh Annually

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, recently toured the sprawling site, bringing national attention to the project's rapid progress. The initial phase of construction covers a massive 150-hectare footprint, transforming the Mapanzure landscape into a high-tech solar hub.
This phased approach ensures that Zimbabwe will begin reaping the benefits of the power generation well before the entire US$100 million project is officially finalized. As the 60MW peak goes live, it will immediately alleviate pressure on local substations.

The government is actively pursuing additional generation projects to complement legacy plants like Hwange Thermal (currently expanding through Units 7 and 8) and the Kariba Hydropower plant, which has frequently suffered from drought-induced low water levels.
Minister Ncube further emphasized that this landmark project showcases the effectiveness of the Second Republic's Engagement and Re-Engagement Policy under President Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa. It proves that beneficial partnerships with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are vital to achieving the Vision 2030 economic development ambitions.
