According to a September 16, 2026 report by The Herald, Lyliosa Chirara wrote a specific section of her suicide note to Misheck Muduva in red ink, while the remainder of the handwritten message was written in blue ink. In the note, Misheck was identified as “Babamukuru Baba va Philip”, a reference to his relationship within the Muduva family. Chirara’s message addressed Misheck Muduva’s alleged role in Martin Muduva’s second marriage to Patience Mangwiro. The note accused Misheck of supporting Dr Martin Muduva’s decision to marry another wife, claims that Misheck later acknowledged while telling mourners that some matters surrounding the couple’s relationship were too sensitive to discuss publicly.

The Herald also reported that Misheck Muduva accompanied Martin Muduva when he paid lobola for his second wife, Patience Mangwiro. This detail became significant because Chirara’s red-ink message specifically referred to Misheck’s involvement in the marriage ceremony and the wider family dispute surrounding Martin’s second marriage.

The Accusation “Babamukuru Baba va Philip, be happy, all that you wanted has come to pass, you were the one encouraging Martin to get an educated wife because the wife that he had was no longer fit for him, he needed a wife who understood the way he worked and who respected him,” she wrote.

Ignoring Her Pain “I was always trying to tell you how I was suffering but I could see that you didn’t have any concern about what I was telling you until you told me that you didn’t want to intervene in our problems.”

The Second Marriage “You went to marry, you did well. You went as the father and that’s exactly what you should have done... But, you intervened when Patience Mangwiro was being married because you wanted her. Chisarai mugarike, please take care of my children.”

Misheck Breaks His Silence

Addressing mourners, Misheck acknowledged the contents of the note but stated that some matters surrounding the couple’s relationship were too complex to be aired out in full.

A Private Struggle “Lyliosa and Muduva had a misunderstanding for some time, and some issues are too sensitive to be disclosed publicly,” he told the gathering.

Family Mediation He said Martin’s decision to marry another wife had been discussed during formal counselling sessions. “Among them was Muduva’s decision to marry another wife. Lyliosa accepted after several counselling sessions, where I represented the Muduva family and she was with her two sisters.”

The US$2,000 Token

Misheck also addressed a financial claim involving US$2,000, revealing that attempts had been made to compensate Lyliosa for the betrayal of her marriage vows.

The Financial Settlement “Muduva told us he had given Lyliosa US$2,000, but she neither confirmed nor denied receiving that money as a token for violating their marriage vows,” Misheck explained.

Dzivarasekwa Tragedy Leaves Families Grieving

The deaths have left the couple’s children and relatives grieving as more details surrounding their troubled 14-year relationship emerge. Martin was buried in Buhera on Sunday, while Lyliosa was buried on Saturday.

The suicide note has become an important part of the aftermath of the tragedy, with the section addressed to Misheck containing specific accusations about the couple’s marriage and the familial pressures involved.

The Herald also reported that community, traditional, and religious leaders used the funeral gatherings to speak out on these issues. Traditional and church leaders subsequently called for professional counselling, open dialogue during family conflicts, and greater efforts to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) before it escalates to such fatal extremes.
