Bryn Mteki Shamed As Household Property Attached and Auctioned Over Child's Unpaid School Fees

Internationally acclaimed sculptor, musician, and former presidential candidate Bryn Taurai Mteki (popularly known as Sekurutau) has suffered a humiliating public blow after his household property was attached and auctioned off over outstanding primary school fees.

UNDER THE HAMMER: The celebrated visual artist lost a range of household goods to Ruby Auctions after failing to settle his child's school fees at Direct Contact School in Harare.

The dispute, which spilled into the High Court of Zimbabwe under case number HC1817/26, saw Mteki lose several valuable household items. Despite his protests that he was a "well-known figure" who deserved prior consultation, Ruby Auctions confirmed that the property was successfully sold to a buyer last week.

Following the escalation of the dispute at the High Court, a sale-in-execution notice was issued, leading to the immediate seizure of Mteki's personal property to cover the school's financial shortfall.

Attached Items The seized property included a dining table, a three-seater beige couch, a room divider, an electric food display, a generator, a three-piece wooden set, seven kitchen stools, and a three-piece basket coffee set.

Sold by Ruby Auctions A source from Ruby Auctions in Harare confirmed that the items were sold off last week. "The matter between Mteki and the school has since been resolved, and the property got a buyer on Tuesday," the source stated.

The auction house added that they had to pull their newspaper advertisements for the sale after successfully finding a buyer, keeping the final sale figure confidential for professional reasons.

The Bursary Dispute

When contacted for comment, the multi-talented artist and 2018 independent presidential candidate confirmed the incident but expressed deep frustration over how the school handled the matter.
