Hulengende Rearrested Moments After NPA Drops Charges as New Fraud Case Emerges

Court Drama: NPA Drops Charges Against Hulengende, But Musician Rearrested Immediately Outside Court

In a rapid succession of legal twists, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has withdrawn fraud and assault charges against Zimdancehall musician Ezbornwage Chidamajaya, famously known as Hulengende. However, his freedom lasted only moments as law enforcement rearrested him right outside the court premises.

LEGAL MAZE: Days after being apprehended post-performance at Glamis Arena, Hulengende saw his initial charges dropped only to face immediate rearrest over new allegations.

The legal relief came after complainants withdrew their respective fraud and assault cases. However, fresh allegations originating from Chinhoyi immediately caught up with the chanter, while his wife, Millicent "Maloti" Chimonyo, remains on the police radar for defaulting court proceedings.

NPA Drops Initial Charges

The initial two counts against Ezbornwage Chidamajaya collapsed after resolutions were reached with the respective complainants.

The NPA formally withdrew both dockets following explicit complainant confirmations.

US$3,900 Fraud Reimbursement The fraud charge was formally withdrawn after the complainant acknowledged receiving the full US$3,900 that was allegedly owed by the artist.
Assault Complainant Withdraws The accompanying assault charge was likewise dropped after the complainant indicated in court that he no longer wished to proceed with the legal matter.

Rearrested Outside Court Premises

Hulengende’s exit from court was short-lived as detectives intercepted him over pending criminal allegations in Mashonaland West.

Chinhoyi Fraud Docket Sources confirmed Chidamajaya was nabbed shortly after stepping out of court, as police in Chinhoyi are seeking him in connection with another fraud case involving a separate complainant.
Fallout From Doek & Slay Arrest This comes just days after Hulengende and his wife were originally arrested following their performance at the Glamis Arena Doek & Slay edition, triggered by promoter complaints over non-honoured bookings and advance deposits.

Wife Millicent "Maloti" Chimonyo Sought

Hulengende's wife faces her own separate legal complications after failing to adhere to court remand schedules.

Passion Java Cyberbullying Case Chimonyo was arrested last year over allegations of cyberbullying directed at musician and socialite Passion Java.
Failure to Appear at Harare Magistrates Court Police are actively seeking Chimonyo after she reportedly failed to attend subsequent remand court appearances in Harare, worsening her legal standing.
EDITORIAL VERDICT

A Revolving Door at the Courts

The brief moment of freedom for Ezbornwage "Hulengende" Chidamajaya underscores an ongoing pattern of legal troubles surrounding the artist and his spouse, Millicent "Maloti" Chimonyo. While reimbursing US$3,900 temporarily cleared one hurdle, new complaints from Chinhoyi prove that settling past accounts does not instantly clear an artist's docket ledger.

With Maloti defaulting on court dates over cyberbullying charges and fresh fraud allegations continuously surfacing across provincial lines, the "Malongende" duo's career continues to be overshadowed by court appearances rather than musical output.
