ZRP Hunts Cow Owner After Fatal Highlanders Crash Kills Four

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched extensive investigations to identify and prosecute the owner of a stray cow believed to have caused the fatal road crash on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway. The devastating collision claimed the lives of three Highlanders Football Club executives and a dedicated club supporter.

POLICE MANHUNT: Detectives are actively tracing the owner of the livestock that wandered onto the highway, leading to the tragic loss of four prominent figures in the Zimbabwean football fraternity.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that detectives are actively pursuing leads to establish who owned the animal, amid indications that it may have been part of a herd being driven by a young herder along the busy highway.

Police are taking a hardline approach against negligence following the devastating accident in Insiza District.

Tracing the Livestock Owner “There are legal provisions that make livestock owners accountable for accidents involving animals on public roads," stated Commissioner Nyathi. "We have received information suggesting that the cow was part of a herd being driven by a young herder. Police are following up on that lead and are determined to identify the owner and ensure the law takes its course.”

Warning to Livestock Owners Nyathi reminded farmers of their strict legal responsibility. “Livestock owners have a duty to ensure that their animals are properly secured and do not wander onto public roads. Negligence can have devastating consequences, including loss of life and significant property damage.” He also urged the public to avoid speculation as inquiries conclude.

The tragedy unfolded on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway as senior football executives returned home from a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match in Kariba. A sudden collision with a stray cow caused the Ford Raptor carrying the club officials to collide head-on with an oncoming bus. The devastating crash claimed four lives, plunging the Zimbabwean sporting fraternity into profound mourning. In recognition of their selfless dedication, sports leadership, and immense contributions to national football development, the Government officially granted all four victims State-assisted funerals.

The sudden appearance of the stray cow on the highway triggered a catastrophic sequence of events.

Collision Sequence The group was travelling home from a match in Kariba after Highlanders lost 1-0 to ZPC Kariba. Reports confirmed that the Ford Raptor carrying the club officials struck the stray cow before colliding head-on with an oncoming bus along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
