The accused previously appeared in court over a disruptive incident at Highlands Police Station earlier this year.

Pattricia Jack is now becoming a common feature at the Harare Magistrates’ Court. Her previous conviction stems from a highly disruptive incident earlier this year at Highlands Police Station.

Chaos at Highlands Police Station

In April, she allegedly caused disturbances at Highlands Police Station where she insulted police officers, made accusations of bribery, and threatened to use powerful connections to have officers dismissed.

Prosecution Account

Prosecutors told the court that she arrived following the arrest of a friend and began shouting at police officers, using vulgar language and making claims involving government officials.

Her conduct was said to have disrupted police operations and tarnished the reputation of the station.

Court Judgment | Harare Magistrate

Guilty Plea, US$150 Fine & Conditional Sentence

The magistrate delivered sentencing after considering mitigation factors and issuing a formal warning.

Pattricia Jack pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct when she appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai in the earlier case.

The Sentence:
She was fined US$150 or face 30 days imprisonment in default of payment.
The Mitigation:
She told the court she is a divorcee, a mother of an 11-year-old child, and works as a social influencer. She apologised and promised not to repeat the offence.

“Such kind of conduct cannot be tolerated in our jurisdiction. The court considered that she was a first-time offender and a single mother.”

FINAL VERDICT

The Limits of the Law

While the court previously showed leniency, taking into consideration that she was a first-time offender and a single mother, Jack's rapid return to custody under the strict Cyber and Data Protection Act raises serious questions about social media accountability. She will remain in custody until her bail proceedings tomorrow.
