Sonja Speaks Out Online
In a video shared online by TheNewsHawks on Monday night, Madzikanda recorded herself inside a dimly lit room to explain her side of the unfolding dispute.
Child Access Dispute
Madzikanda stated: "I did my kids’ school run. I went and picked up my kids. When I came back, he called the police and said that I had denied him access to his kids."
A Recurring Issue
She alleged the dispute had been ongoing for some time, noting: "This is now the second time he has done this to me. Over the holiday, I didn’t have access to my kids on my birthday. I didn’t have my two weeks of the holiday with him."
Escalating Tensions
Device Theft & Custody Fears
Beyond the child access claims, the situation appears to have escalated with new accusations involving personal property.
Alleged Stolen Device
Madzikanda claimed a second complaint was later made against her involving one of Chivayo’s devices: "He then came and has alleged that I have stolen one of his devices." She also hinted at videos allegedly stored on this device.
Intimidation Claims
Madzikanda highlighted the power dynamic, stating, "This is a man who is heavily guarded, as you are all aware. He has so many security guards around him." She believes the ultimate goal is to remove her children from her custody.
The Legal Context
A US$5 Million Settlement
The latest developments come just weeks after the High Court finalized the couple’s highly publicized divorce settlement on April 10, 2026.
Financial Settlement
Presided over by Justice Amy Tsanga, the ruling ordered Chivayo to pay Madzikanda US$5 million. Court records confirmed US$2.2 million was already paid, with US$2.8 million to be settled within 30 days. Madzikanda had initially sought US$25 million and US$40,000 monthly maintenance.
Parenting Arrangement
Madzikanda retained the primary residence of the children, while Chivayo was granted structured access rights. Prior to the ruling, Chivayo had complained about denied access, stating: "Lost birthdays, milestones and daily interactions are irrecoverable. The prejudice is ongoing and cumulative."
The Verdict
A High-Profile Post-Divorce Battle
Despite a multi-million dollar settlement intended to finalize their split, the post-divorce relationship between Wicknell Chivayo and Sonja Madzikanda remains highly volatile. The introduction of police intervention over custody structures and alleged device theft suggests that legal guidelines from the April High Court ruling are being fiercely contested in real time. At the time of publication, there is no official public statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Chivayo, or Madzikanda’s legal team regarding the arrest.
