Police Account for All Suspects in Joseph Mutangadura’s Murder Case

The Zimbabwe Republic Police says it has now tracked down all individuals linked to the killing of Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura, nearly a year after the fatal attack. The case had remained under active investigation following the businessman’s death during a violent robbery at his home in August 2025.

Armed Gang Stormed Residence
Joseph Mutangadura, popularly known as “Mutangazi,” was killed after a group of armed assailants raided his residence in Ruwa.
A Seven-Man Syndicate
The gang, believed to have been seven in number, reportedly subdued a security guard before gaining entry into the house. During the incident, the businessman was shot multiple times, and the suspects went on to loot valuables from a safe before fleeing.
Fresh Arrests After Intelligence Tip-Off
In a statement, the police confirmed the arrest of two additional suspects in Gweru, following intelligence received by CID Homicide officers.
The suspects, identified as Solomon Wisdom Tariro and Samuel Munyunguma, were tracked to a service station in the Claremount area.
ZRP Official Confirmation
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of two other suspects, Solomon Wisdom Tariro (28), as well as Samuel Munyunguma (55), in connection with the case and subsequent death of Valentine Mutasa (34) following a shootout with the police in Gweru on 19th March 2026. This follows a tip-off received by detectives from CID Homicide regarding the whereabouts of the suspects.”
The Deadly Gunfight
Detectives moved in, but the situation quickly escalated into a gunfight after the suspects fired at officers. One suspect escaped during the chaos, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. One of the injured men later died in hospital.
Police Report of the Clash
“Acting on the received information, the detectives tracked the suspects to a service station in Claremount, Gweru. The suspects opened fire upon being confronted by police, leading to a shootout. The other suspect, Obedience Mutasa, managed to escape."
"Subsequently, Solomon Tariro and Valentine Mutasa were injured and were referred to the hospital, where Valentine Mutasa was pronounced dead upon admission.”
Authorities recovered a 9mm Canik pistol loaded with two live rounds, along with an Ekol 9mm blank pistol containing two blank cartridges.
Investigations revealed that the Canik firearm had been stolen during a robbery in Mberengwa in September 2025. Police also indicated that Samuel Munyunguma is assisting with investigations into two separate armed robbery cases in Zvishavane and Mberengwa.

All Suspects Accounted For
With the latest arrests, police say all suspects connected to Mutangadura’s murder have now been identified and accounted for. The ZRP explicitly stated: “The public should take note that all the suspects in the murder of Joseph Mutangadura have all been accounted for by the Police.”
