As the clock ticks down to the historic New Year's Eve Shutdown at the Hockey Stadium, renowned music promoter Nyasha Marufu has issued a rallying cry to the nation. With both Jah Prayzah and Winky D set to share the stage, Marufu argues that the toxic rivalry between fanbases is holding back the entire industry.
Greatness is a Category, Not a Competition
"In Zimbabwe, we argue about Jah Prayzah and Winky D instead of pushing both to the world stage," Marufu lamented. He expressed frustration at the lack of "fan maturity," noting that people work overtime to create conflict where none exists.
Marufu declared his stance unequivocally: "I personally support both, fully and respectfully. Greatness is not a competition… it’s a category. And both of these men sit in it."
The "Scarcity Mentality"
According to Marufu, the rivalry is rooted in a dangerous belief that only one artist can win at a time.
- "If you think supporting Winky means hating JP, that’s not loyalty... that’s limited thinking."
- "If you think praising Jah Prayzah means disrespecting Winky D... that’s poor reasoning at its best."
"Winky D doesn’t prevent Jah Prayzah from shining. Jah Prayzah doesn’t block Winky D’s success. Zimbabwe is not too small to celebrate two giants at once."
