The Lioness of the Mountain: Prophetess Memory Matimbire

Redefining Women's Ministry in Zimbabwe

Memory Matimbire is not just a preacher; she is a movement. As the visionary behind Daughters of Virtue (DOV) and the Ndadhinhiwa Prayer Group, she has mobilized over 800,000 followers across 21 nations. From the corporate world of accounting to the rugged mountains of prayer, her journey is a testament to the power of spiritual resilience.

From Pain to Power

Before the multitudes gathered, there was a solitary woman on a mountain seeking God.

Long before she held a microphone, Memory Matimbire held a calculator. She is a qualified accountant by profession, a background that brings a level of structural pragmatism to her ministry. She also holds a Diploma in Biblical Studies from Lead Bible School International Ministries.

Matimbire’s spiritual journey was forged in the fire of personal tribulation. After marrying Pastor Fred Matimbire, she faced years of barrenness. This painful season birthed a deep empathy for women facing similar struggles.

It was this desperation that drove her to secluded places—Mutemwa, Domboshawa, and Ngomakurira Mountains—where she fasted and prayed. She claims this is where God dealt with her character and anointed her. Today, she is the mother of a daughter, Nyasha, and a spiritual mother to millions.

HEBRON ART OF PRAYER

The Foundation

Founded alongside her husband, Hebron Art of Prayer International Ministries has grown to over 15 branches across Zimbabwe and South Africa, fostering a culture of "fervent radical prayer."

DAUGHTERS OF VIRTUE (DOV)

The Explosion

Birthed in June 2017, DOV began as a female-specific group but grew so large that a male equivalent, Sons of Valour (SOV), was created. The movement now boasts nearly 800,000 followers.

"Ndadhinhiwa": A Theology of Resistance

The slogan of her prayer group is "Ndadhinhiwa" (I am fed up). Academic analysts view this as a subversive resistance to patriarchal dominance in African Pentecostalism.

It represents a refusal to be a passive spectator in the church. Matimbire uses the pulpit to challenge the status quo, asking women: "Who told you that as a woman, you cannot raise the dead? Who told you that as a woman, you cannot contest to be president?"

Her sermons frequently reference the Daughters of Zelophehad (Numbers 27), women who challenged Moses to receive their inheritance.

Through this narrative, she deconstructs the image of the "passive mother" and replaces it with the "spiritual soldier," often donning military camouflage during services to emphasize that women are in a spiritual war for their destiny.

Navigating Pushback

Matimbire's rapid rise and "masculinized" military presentation have drawn the ire of conservative male leaders in the New Pentecostal Movement. Notably, Apostle Talent Chiwenga has publicly criticized her, questioning the theology behind a woman commanding spiritual armies in military gear.

Despite these attacks, her following has only grown, proving that her message resonates deeply with women who feel marginalized in traditional church structures.

The Holistic Gospel

Prophetess Matimbire believes that spiritual fervor must be matched by economic success.
