Predators in Disguise: Tatenda Pinjisi’s Widow Targeted by 'Sex Maniacs'

"They Want Sex, Not To Help": Pinjisi’s Widow Targeted by Predators

The Victim: Mellisa Chikuti | The Issue: Harassment disguised as charity

Mellisa Chikuti, the widow of late sungura musician Tatenda Pinjisi, has made a heartbreaking plea, warning against men she describes as "Sex Maniacs" masquerading as helpers. Since her husband's tragic death in April, she has faced troubling advances from men claiming to offer support.

Chikuti alleges that men aged 30-40 have approached her under the guise of financial assistance, only to demand sexual favours or romantic involvement in return, leaving her emotionally and mentally drained as she navigates life after her loss.

Fake "Good Samaritans"

"I am still mourning, and my children are still mourning."

Target: Vulnerable Widows

Chikuti reveals that men approach her claiming they want to ease her burden. However, "some propose love after helping me and some propose love even before delivering the donations."

"Munhu anouya achida kukubatsira, mukubatsira imomo, akutotaura zverudo, handisati ndapedza kupukuta misodzi... (Someone comes claiming to help, but in the process, they start talking about love when I haven't even finished wiping my tears)."

She expressed frustration at their timing: "I do not know why some of these so-called ‘Good Samaritans’ come voluntarily... yet surprisingly, what they end up demanding is something else."

What She Actually Needs

Mellisa is not asking for handouts to survive; she wants tools to work. She stated that if she gets money to buy a sewing machine, "most of the challenges I am facing will melt away." She previously ran a uniform business with her late husband.

She has decided to cut communication with those bringing "temptations." Her plea is simple: "We need people who want to genuinely help, who want to assist us as a family that is still mourning."

Keeping the Music Alive

The Next Generation

Despite her struggles, Mellisa is determined to revive Tatenda Pinjisi's musical legacy. She has engaged Kamurungu, a guitarist who survived the fatal accident, to teach her 11-year-old son how to play the guitar.

Pinjisi, known for the hit song "Saina," died on April 10 in a road accident near the Norton tollgate while travelling to a show in Kadoma.

Amidst her own pain, Mellisa took time to pay condolences to the family of the Senior Lecturer. "I would like to pay my condolences to Amai Nicholas Zakaria and Baba Alick Macheso after the death of our father Madzibaba."
