Oscar Pambuka - The Legend Returns
From the "News at Eight" to a champion of rehabilitation: The evolution of Oscar Pambuka.

Today, he stands as a living testament that mistakes do not define a man—how he rises from them does. He remains a gifted communicator, a father, and a beacon of hope for those seeking to turn their lives around.

The Icon Behind the Headlines: Celebrating the Voice and Vision of Modern Journalism

Defining excellence in Zimbabwean broadcasting.

Pambuka rose to national prominence as a newscaster and senior producer at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC). His signature introduction, "The News at Eight, read by Oscar Pambuka," became a household phrase, marking him as one of the most talented journalists of his generation.

He built his career on a solid educational foundation, holding a Journalism and Communications qualification from the prestigious Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA).

Entrepreneurship, Culture, and the Spirit of Innovation

Beyond the newsroom, Pambuka demonstrated a sharp entrepreneurial spirit. He co-founded Fruitful Communications and later established Oscar Pambuka and Associates, a public relations firm run alongside his family.

In 2013, he was appointed the Patron of Zimdancehall. Pambuka was instrumental in bringing professionalism to the genre, sponsoring workshops for artists in the ghettos to discourage violence. He even collaborated with top artists like Kinnah and DJ Fantan on tracks such as "Hukama".

Pambuka is also a man of deep faith. He served as the spokesperson for PHD Ministries and in May 2019, expanded his spiritual calling by founding Oscar Pambuka Ministries, ministering to the sick and afflicted.

Overcoming Adversity and Rising Stronger

Like many great figures, Pambuka faced a "valley" season. Battles with substance abuse led to legal challenges and a conviction in 2018 regarding a PR deal, followed by further legal hurdles in 2023.

However, it is his response to these challenges that defines his current legacy. Rather than denying his past, Pambuka displayed immense courage by accepting his shortcomings. He utilized his time in the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services for genuine rehabilitation, emerging not as a victim, but as a survivor.

The Advocate and the Reward: Stories of Impact and Recognition

Turning personal pain into national purpose.

By late 2025, Oscar Pambuka successfully rebranded himself as a powerful anti-drug advocate. He now uses his platform and lived experience to warn the youth about the dangers of addiction, supporting the national fight against substance abuse led by the government and the Angel of Hope Foundation.

In December 2025, his rehabilitation and advocacy were publicly recognized by businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo. Citing Pambuka’s courage to change and his undeniable talent, Chivayo gifted him a brand-new 2025 Toyota Fortuner and USD $10,000, declaring that "Everyone deserves a second chance."
