The "Apolo-Jersey" Returns: Apostle Chibanda Apologizes to Doek & Slay After Arrest
Firebrand Pastor Alistair Chibanda has issued a public apology for cyberbullying the women’s brand Doek & Slay following his arrest, marking a recurring pattern of aggressive online campaigns ending in humiliating public retreats. This latest forced climbdown is a stark echo of the activist pastor’s history, including his infamous 2022 ‘Apolo-Jersey’ to Nyaradzo Funeral Services and a separate apology to NSSA boss Arthur Manase.

Facing a criminal cyberbullying case from Doek & Slay, Chibanda posted the apology online, expressing remorse for a social media tirade where he used derogatory language about women attendees. He admitted his behavior did not "reflect integrity, maturity, or empathy," a statement that has done little to quell the skepticism of the public who have seen this cycle play out before.
"I Am Truly Ashamed"
In his letter to the management of Doek & Slay, Chibanda fully retracted his claims that the event was "ungodly" or "diabolical."
"I would like to unreservedly apologize for my actions… particularly for engaging in cyber bullying and for making derogatory and hurtful statements about women who attend the event. There is no excuse for cyber bullying or for language that demeans or disrespects women."
He further acknowledged that Doek & Slay is a platform that "uplifts, empowers, and celebrates women," a sharp contrast to his previous "prophetic warnings" about satanic hosts.
The Legal Fallout
The apology follows his detention by police on December 19, 2025. Unlike previous controversies which remained civil disputes, the Doek & Slay team pursued formal criminal charges.
Chibanda was picked up by law enforcement in Harare and remains in custody assisting with investigations into Cyber Bullying and Defamation. The apology appears to be a bid to mitigate these legal consequences.
What Did He Say?
Prior to his arrest, Chibanda had circulated viral videos—including one of a woman urinating in public—claiming they depicted the behavior at the Doek & Slay event. Organizers maintained these videos were unrelated to their event and used maliciously to damage their brand. By apologizing, Chibanda has implicitly admitted that his "evidence" was false.
He had also issued a "prophetic warning" linking the event to "satanic hosts" and predicting "premature deaths" between Dec 20 and Jan 1. This spiritual fear-mongering was a key component of the defamation allegations.
A History of Humiliation
This situation is the third in a series of nearly identical controversies. In late 2022, Chibanda issued a formal letter of apology to Arthur Manase, the General Manager of NSSA.
After initially accusing him of corruption, Chibanda retracted his comments as "factually incorrect and defaming" when faced with legal pressure.
Just weeks after the NSSA incident, he performed a more dramatic reversal regarding Nyaradzo Funeral Services. After leading a viral campaign accusing the company of fraud, he deleted all posts and published another humbling retraction.
He claimed he had been "misled by his sources." That very public, forced apology was widely branded an ‘Apolo-Jersey’ by the Zimbabwean online community, a moniker that has stuck to him since.
