Tytie & Kiki: The Millions, The "Nyathi" Drama, and Why They Chose Zimbabwe Over SA
In a revealing interview with V Candy, Zimbabwe's youngest power couple opens up about their luxurious new home, clearing the air on "arrogance" allegations, and why investing in a house was better than buying a car.
Zimbabwe Cribs: Leaving the SA Struggle
Despite the allure of South Africa, Tytie and Kiki made the bold decision to relocate back to Zimbabwe. "We feel free here," Tytie told V Candy. "In South Africa, you always have to look over your shoulder, especially when you become a public figure. It isn't safe."
The couple, now parents to a beautiful baby boy, TJ, prioritized peace of mind and ownership over the hustle of SA. Kiki admitted the move was Tytie's idea initially. "I was thinking about the transport from Cape Town, moving all our sofas... it wasn't easy," she laughed. "But we realized, what if we just go home and start afresh?"
At just 22 and 19 years old respectively, Tytie and Kiki exhibit maturity beyond their years. Tytie attributes this to his background. "I grew up living with different relatives, experiencing different treatments. It gave me a mindset that I need to do better," he explained.
He emphasized his desire to provide a different life for his wife and child, ensuring Kiki never has to stress about basics like airtime or transport money.
Love in the Time of WhatsApp
Like many modern romances, Tytie and Kiki met digitally via WhatsApp groups. Kiki describes their relationship as one based on "chemistry, not math."
"Relationships have chemistry, not maths. Don't calculate 'if I do this, I get that.' Just flow," Kiki advised. "Marry your best friend. Know your person better than anyone else."
From $700 Checks to Building Mansions
The couple started creating content for the fun of entertaining people, unaware that monetization was real. "We thought social media money was a scam," Tytie admitted. When they received their first Facebook payout of $700, they couldn't sleep. "We kept checking our bank accounts to see if it would reflect!"
Addressing the pressure to look rich, Tytie explained their philosophy on money. While fans might expect them to drive flashy cars like a Honda Fit or better, Tytie chose to pour his earnings into building their house.
"If building a house requires $100,000, and I have $2,000, I start building," he said wisely. "I can't show people a car when I have nothing at home. I'd rather have a home and walk."
Clearing the Air: The "Nyathi" Saga
Tytie took the opportunity to address the long-standing rumours of "beef" with fellow creators, specifically the "Nyathi" crew. He dispelled the myth that they were arrogant or ungrateful.
"We were actually the first to post Nyathi on our page back in the day," Tytie revealed. He explained that when they tried to reach out for collaborations or live sessions previously, they were ignored or given the runaround.
"When we went to Joburg, we tried to meet up. We asked for a location, but we were ghosted. We realized they didn't want to work with us," he claimed. Tytie believes the "hate" narrative was pushed by people surrounding those creators, not necessarily the creators themselves.
Tytie emphasized that their silence wasn't pride, but self-preservation. "We decided to just do our life. We avoid drama because tomorrow you might need those same people. But we won't force relationships where we aren't wanted."
