Sandra's Traumatic Experience at 16

Sandra Mtukudzi recounted a particularly distressing incident from her teenage years. At just 16, she was left to fend for herself in Kwekwe after being abandoned by her father, the legendary Oliver Mtukudzi, and her stepmother, Daisy. 

Sandra explained that after finishing school, she lived with her father and stepmother in Kwekwe, where she often felt she was treated differently from Daisy’s biological children.

Abandoned Without Warning

The situation took a drastic turn when Oliver and Daisy completed building a new house in Norton. Without informing Sandra, they moved all their belongings, leaving her to come home to an empty house. 

Desperate, Sandra managed to get an advance on her salary from her boss to reconnect her water. It wasn’t until she spoke to a cousin that she learned her father had a cellphone. This revelation came as a shock to Sandra, who felt utterly abandoned.

Forced to Leave Home Before Adulthood

When Sandra finally contacted her father and told him about the water issue, Daisy came to Kwekwe a few days later and reimbursed Sandra’s boss. However, Daisy informed Sandra that they were renting out the house, and when Sandra asked to stay in the cottage, she was told the tenant wanted both the house and the cottage. At just 17, Sandra was forced to find a place to rent, feeling abandoned once again by her family.
