Harnessing Sunlight: The program embarks on its journey in Harare, with 400 houses in Glen View serving as the initial testing ground. Rooftop solar panels will convert sunlight into clean energy, feeding directly into the national grid managed by Zesa. This additional power source aims to bolster overall capacity and lessen reliance on traditional, often unreliable, energy sources.

Mutual Benefits: Homeowners participating in this pilot will receive a token of appreciation for their contribution to the national effort. Additionally, Zesa has agreed, in principle, to suspend load-shedding in areas participating in the scheme. 

Collaboration for Success:

ZISEC Leads the Way: The Zimbabwe Solar Energy Company (ZISEC), a subsidiary of Prevail Group International (PGI), spearheads the pilot project. Through standardized contractual agreements, ZISEC can recoup its investment and generate a fair profit over the scheme's lifespan. This financial incentive encourages private sector involvement in future renewable energy initiatives.

Empowering Local Talent: The project fosters local expertise and participation in the green energy revolution by training Zimbabweans to install the solar systems. This not only empowers the community but also builds a skilled workforce for potential project expansion, ensuring a sustainable talent pool for future endeavors.

Residents Voice Support:

CHRA Endorses Initiative: The Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) applauds the scheme as a "developmental rent-a-roof" solution to power challenges. CHRA pledges to advocate for residents' interests in contractual agreements with ZISEC, ensuring fair compensation and open communication throughout the project.

Independent Power Producers Pave the Way: The Presidential Solar Scheme complements a growing trend of renewable energy adoption in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has already licensed over 100 small independent power producers (IPPs) with a combined potential capacity of 1300 MW. 

While only a handful of IPPs are currently operational, they represent a significant step towards a more diversified and sustainable energy mix.
