Harare-Mutare Road Tragedy: Driver Surrenders as Death Toll Rises to Five

The driver of the haulage truck involved in the tragedy, Pardon Tichaona Sungai (31), has surrendered to the police to assist with investigations.

Driver Cooperates with Authorities

According to Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, Sungai voluntarily turned himself in on Friday, June 7th, 2024. This demonstrates his willingness to cooperate with authorities and face the legal consequences of the accident.

Jerina Nhapi, a 38-year-old woman, and Beatrice Chihabvu, also 38, are the first victims whose identities have been released to the public. The process of identifying the remaining victims is ongoing, and authorities urge families of those missing to come forward with information.
